Porsche revealed the 918 concept at Geneva Motor Show 2010 it just amazed all the sports car enthusiasts as everyone was wondering that how the successor of the popular Carrera GT will look like in the real world and now we are close to get the car in the real world with all of its charms and specs and so it is expected to put on sale in December 2013. The biggest reason for waiting for the real world model of the Porsche 918 Spyder is that we can’t trust in the words of manufacturers because it is the habit of all the automakers to overestimate their upcoming vehicles.
The Porsche 918 Spyder is built on CFRP stands for carbon fiber re-inforced plastics making the car lighter, more stable and stronger as well as safer for those sitting in the cabin. The exterior of the car shares lots of tweaks with other Porsche models. The car features sleek roofline sloping down to the rear, sloped nose, shapelier headlamps, less bulging front fenders, larger dual-pedestal spoiler, taillights resembling with 918, air vents are placed below the taillights and huge diffusers that are completing the look and shape of the 918 Spyder.
The Porsche 918 Spyder’s interior is looking very impressive and high quality in the images available on the internet. The center console looks like amazing, neat ultra modern and has trio rounded standalone gauges. The cabin is a blend of black and silver with green contrast piping on the door trims, a multi functional 3 spoke steering wheel, leather wrapped sport seats and 11 speaker Burmester sound system. Porsche used high quality soft touch material for the car’s interior that will increase the charm and comfort of the car.
The Porsche fits a 4.6 liter V8 engine under the hood and behind the seats of the 918 Spyder with titanium connecting rods, thin wall and low pressure casting on the cylinder heads and crank case, light weight steel crankshaft and alloy steel exhaust system to keep the car possibly light. With the help of this smart technology, the engine pushes the car from 0-62 mph in 2.8 seconds produces 608 horsepower and 391 lb ft of torque. This is not the end as Porsche fits a154 horsepower to the rear axle and 127 horsepower to the front axle that delivers a combined 887 horsepower and 940 lb ft of torque. The engine is mated with Porsche’s special seven speed PDK automated manual transmission. The car can get a top speed up to 211 mph with 79 G/Km CO2 emission. The technology makes the 918 Spyder an amazing car of the year as no other cars have opted for such a great technology. The car is now going through its testing session in order to eliminate all the flaws.
Initially the Porsche 918 Spyder will be offered to the Europe and US market at a base price of €781,155 and $845,000 respectively. The addition of optional features and packages will multiply the price. The car will be available at the end of this year but unfortunately, the car is already sold out and if anyone wants to buy this masterpiece have to wait until it hit the used market but expect a high price.
