Here’s the thing about cars – things rarely break ‘just like that’. In the vast majority of cases, it’s small things that you might skirt over that grow into the biggest issues. And, unless you learn how to spot them, these problems will end up costing you big bucks. In today’s guide, we’re going to go through five of the most common minor problems – make sure that you know what can happen if you don’t fix them up.
Spark Plugs
A new set of spark plugs isn’t cheap to buy and install. But, it’s far less expensive than a new converter and the sheer waste of fuel you can expect to spend if you don’t fix them. Spark plugs light the combustion chamber in your engine, and when they’re faulty, they don’t fire properly. You’ll lose acceleration, power, waste fuel – and you could even be doing harm to the environment. If your car is feeling woozy on the road or has sudden surges or hesitations, get your spark plugs looked at straight away. Otherwise, you could be looking at a much more expensive repair job.
Chips in the Windshield
Chips occur all the time in car windscreens. Little stones often fly up into the air as cars go past, and they can damage the glass easily. The trouble is, not everyone attends to the tiny chips as soon as they appear. It might not be an issue, but it won’t take long for it to become severe. There’s every chance that small chip will become an enormous crack in your windshield – which could prove fatal. Make sure that you call your local auto glass repairs whenever you have windshield problems. It will save you a lot of money – and maybe even your life.
Check your Tires
Make sure that you are balancing your car tires, or you could pay a hefty price. For a start, it’s dangerous. Unequal tire pressure can make your vehicle drift and slide across the road. Second, it’s going to result in you needing a new set of tires, as they will wear down when there is no balance. And, of course, it could even mean you need a whole new suspension system. As anyone who has ever gone through that process will tell you – it isn’t cheap.
Check your Thermostat
Your thermostat keeps a close eye on the temperature of your engine. And, it acts in a similar way to an orchestral conductor, in that it tells your cooling system to get to work at precisely the right time. If it isn’t working, your engine will overheat, which means the potential for many problems. It could blow your head gasket, for example.
Fix Leaks
Finally, make sure you are aware of any leaks in your car. They can be easy to spot -just keep your eye on the road beneath your car and investigate any problems. Oil, water, and even brake fluid can all leak. And, there can be expensive and potentially devastating consequences.
These five problems are all common, but won’t cost the earth to fix. Leave them, however, and it might be a different story!
