Chevrolet cars are manufactured in India by the Chevrolet Sales India Private Limited. Founded in the year 2003, it is a subsidiary of the General Motors India Private Limited, which in turn, is a subsidiary of the US automaker, the General Motors. GM was the first automaker to start a vehicle assembly plant in India. Now, Chevrolet is the fifth largest car manufacturer in India after Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata and Mahindra.
Chevrolet cars are extremely popular among the Indian car buyers. The US carmaker offers many types of cars for the Indian customers. In the compact car segment, it offers cars like Spark, Beat and Sail. Of these, the Chevrolet Spark is a top seller, followed by Beat. The Chevrolet Sail, however, has not managed to do very well in the Indian car market.
Chevrolet Cruze is one of the most selling compact sedans of recent times. It was one the first vehicles to offer many features like keyless entry and other comfort and luxury factors. As such, the car enjoyed great popularity and has been sold in great numbers too.
When it comes to SUVs, there are not many rivals, who can beat a Chevrolet. The Chevrolet cars like Tavera and Captiva have been trendsetters and top sellers of the segment. Tavera has been a steady performer ever since it was introduced in 2004. It was one of the early SUVs and hence, could reap the first mover advantage. Even after the influx of vehicles in this segment, these two models continue to enjoy great customer loyalty and backing.
In case of MPVs, the recently introduced Chevrolet Enjoy is doing a good business in India. It is taking on rivals like the Nissan Evalia and Maruti Ertiga. According to industry experts, the Enjoy is considered one among the top three best-selling MPVs of the world. However, the car is yet to make it big in India, though it is hoped that it will repeat the global success story in India as well.
In short, Chevrolet cars have bagged the top-selling positions in the compact and mid size segment. In the SUV segment too, the carmaker has witnessed good results. It is hoped that together with the vast experience of General Motors and a better understanding of the Indian conditions, Chevrolet will find greater success in future.
